La historia fue tan importante para la construcción de la identidad comunitaria y la legitimidad política en el siglo XV como lo es hoy, y en los reinos de España igualmente tenso. Los cronistas y biógrafos católicos castellanos parecen inseguros del estado preciso de los moros en Iberia. Todos estaban de acuerdo con el control político o el señorío de los cristianos castellanos, pero pocos tenían una idea clara de las implicaciones de ese señorío para los moros. ¿Debería permitirse a los moros permanecer como parte de la comunidad una vez que un monarca cristiano castellano tomara el control de su ciudad, región o reino, o no había posibilidad de que pertenecieran? Rodrigo Sánchez de Arévalo (1404-1470), Fernán Pérez de Guzmán (c. 1377-c. 1460), Alonso Fernández de Palencia (1423-1492), Hernando de Pulgar (1436-c. 1492), y Mosén Diego de Valera (1412-1488) dieron diferentes respuestas. Todos coincidieron en que la comunidad castellano-leonesa existía antes de al-Andalus y, por lo tanto, era la comunidad política legítima de Hispania. This case study retrospectively reflects on a self-contained teacher’s decision to pair publisher-created adapted text with audio support as part of a multicomponent reading intervention. She evolved from creating her own adapted text to implementing publisher-created adapted text throughout a school year. The study analyzed students’ reading comprehension test scores throughout the year to examine the influence of publisher-created adapted text embedded within a multi-component reading intervention. The Related-Samples Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test revealed significance (p=.043) between students’ fall and spring Reading Inventory scores, with a moderate effect size (r=.562). The teacher made the instructional decision to implement publisher-created adapted text which eliminated time consuming self-adaptation of materials (Browder et al., 2007) and her students continued to make progress with this shift of materials with some demonstrating significant progress by the end of the school year.

We detail our emotionally challenging conversations about racism, microaggressions, and the meaning of social justice in social work to build a different bond and sense of understanding. We delve into how we understand each other, our differing viewpoints on the murders of Black people in American society such as George Floyd, and our perspectives on social workers’ relationships to social justice, racism, and social change in the context of the 2020 turmoil.

College graduates need to have specific leadership-related skills, behaviors, and traits when entering the workforce. Campus involvement is one way for students to develop such areas. Therefore, this qualitative study explored the self-reported leadership skills of first-generation college students who were actively participating in intramural sports. Twelve students from a 4-year public university in the Northeast were interviewed about the research-driven photographs they submitted depicting leadership skills they engaged in during intramural sports participation. Photograph captions and interviews were analyzed using Kouzes and Posner's (2014) leadership model. Findings revealed that students reported engaging in behaviors and actions aligned with the leadership practices described by Kouzes and Posner (2014). These findings can help inform the decisions campus recreation professionals make about the role leadership development plays in program offerings.

Dishonesty and misconduct of nursing students during their education is a continuing concern, especially as it relates to expected professional behaviors. This quasi experimental pre-and post-interventional study explored the impact of an affective learning module on developing beliefs and perceptions of ethicality of academic and professional misconduct of students in a BSN program. A modified version of McCrink’s (2008) tool, entitled “Nursing Student Experiences and Perceptions of Academic and Professional Conduct Survey” measured these constructs. The affective learning module, based on Rest’s theory of moral development, and Krathwohl’s affective taxonomy, actively engaged students in ethical decision-making with connections to professional practice through discussion, case review and reflection. The pretest data (N=65) analysis using Mann Whitney U, indicated differences in mean rank related to enrollment status, healthcare work experience and gender and beliefs, and perceptions of academic and professional misconduct. A comparative analysis (N=16) of pre and posttest data was limited due to required changes related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Changes in pre and posttest data suggest the need to replicate and continue research in the area of intentional affective teaching of ethicality and professional values.

Political polarization is a marked political division in the population, characterized by multiple manifestations. The authors argue that it can affect consumer psychology, which in turn influences marketers, policy makers, and consumer welfare. The present work introduces the construct of political polarization to the marketing literature and shows how it serves as a novel challenge for various marketing stakeholders. For consumers, the authors propose that political polarization increases the salience of political identities, alters inter- and intragroup dynamics, and amplifies cognitive biases. These effects negatively affect consumer welfare, including financial welfare, relationships, mental and physical health, and societal interests. For marketers, polarization introduces a challenge to both be more sociopolitically engaged while also navigating competing political interests. Polarization also creates new opportunities and challenges for segmentation, targeting, loyalty, and product offerings. For policy makers, political polarization creates policy gaps, impedes the implementation of policy, and obstructs governance. Building from these insights, the authors consider the drawbacks and overlooked benefits of political polarization, potential remedies, and directions for future research.
