Three community engagement projects on the South Island of New Zealand are enacting education and communication initiatives to improve the uptake of best management practices on farms regarding nutrient management for improving water quality. Understanding the enablers and barriers to effective community-based catchment management is fundamental to planning, implementing and evaluating these initiatives. This article investigates some key predictors of success or determinants of effective community engagement. Six factors were identified: access to science, training, and information; confidence in regulatory policies; leadership; farm planning and monitoring; trust in the public; and concern for water quality. © 2017 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.

This article examines college student disengagement from sports, presents a multidimensional concept of athletic identity, and introduces a new measure intended to assist college counselors in their work with disengaged athletes. The Multidimensional Athletic Identity and Engagement Scale (MAIES) is introduced (Cronbach alpha.98, with subscale alphas between.78 and.96), and the results of exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses and convergent and divergent validity with 250 college student participants are presented. Using case examples, the authors discuss how counselors may use the MAIES in their work with students. Limitations of the study and suggestions for future research are discussed. © 2017 Taylor & Francis.

A block copolymer/metal-salt solution was used to deposit metal nanoparticles on substrates, from which carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were grown in a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) chamber. Mono and hybrid catalysts of Fe, Ni, and Co-nitrates were tested, and separately Co, Ni, and Cu-chlorides. In both cases cobalt/cobalt-hybrids produced the highest density of multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). Slight vertical growth, though sparse, was observed after growth at 800°C from a nickel catalyst on single-crystal aluminium oxide (~130nm diameter). © 2017 World Scientific Publishing Company.

There is a continued emphasis on the importance of building collaborative working relationships between school principals and counsellors to address the growing academic, career and college readiness, and social-emotional needs of students in K-12 schools. This study explored and analysed 1466 school principals' perceptions around important school counselling priorities, perceptions, and activities that are carried out in Turkish public and private schools. The study additionally explored school principals' expectations of school counsellors' roles and responsibilities as aligned with traditional and transformed school counselling programmes and practices. This study may be of value to school leaders, policy makers and educators interested in revising and improving their school counselling services to meet the complex academic and counselling needs of students in contemporary schools.

The United States spends nearly twice as much per capita on health care as several OECD countries. Based on previous research, universal health care decreases the total health care expenditure due to the single-payer system; it is still unknown whether a mixed health care system has superiority. In this study, we compare and evaluate both quality of care and administrative costs among six developed countries, upon three groups: single-payer universal health care system (Australia and Canada), two-tier health care system (France and Japan), and insurance mandate health care system (Switzerland and the US). The results show that both single-payer system and two-tier system are superior to insurance mandate system on health insurance administration costs. Also, regarding insurance mandate system, the healthcare system in Switzerland is more efficient than that in the US. So, we conclude that it is possible for the US to choose a diverse healthcare system, instead of focusing on one system, to trim the healthcare administration cost and improve the quality of care for the entire country.
